Wisp Treasure Hunt: Watermill Hills

From Sloughside Mill, head west up the slope to meet the wisps. Follow them through the bear encounter and back toward the stone altar treasure. The chest’s normal loot interaction displays a one-segment time cost.

Find the wisps above the mill

Go to the Sloughside Mill shrine near Mert’s mill. Walk west and up the hill until the floating lights start moving and the journal asks you to see what they want to show you.

You do not need an NPC to give you the hunt. The lights are visible in daytime as well, so do not wait until night just to trigger this route.

Follow the route to the altar

  1. Follow the lights southwest toward the rocky cliff.
  2. Deal with the Ravenous Bear on the documented route. Keep it in front of you, avoid red unblockable attacks and counter after a committed swing.
  3. Find the lights again after the fight and follow them northwest uphill.
  4. At the top, follow their turn east and downhill.
  5. Look for the stone altar among the bodies; the treasure chest is there.

If you lose the lights, return toward the last stretch where you saw them and look for their trail before heading farther into the trees.

Check the time prompt and the actual loot

The normal chest interaction is marked Loot · 1 in the recorded gameplay. Budget that segment before completing it. A video’s suggestion to leave an item behind is not a verified way to finish the quest without spending time.

Published recordings show different chest contents. Treat items such as Wildboar Hauberk or a skill manual as recorded examples, not a guaranteed shopping list. Inspect your own drops, and read any manual you want to use.

Looting the chest completes the hunt; the written walkthrough records 100 XP and one skill point at completion. If the hunt remains in your journal, check its current objective and the chest interaction rather than assuming the bear kill finished it.

Check proficiency before equipping a new hauberk

A chestpiece with a better armor number can still impose an untrained proficiency penalty. If you find Wildboar Hauberk, check its equipment panel and your armor training before replacing your current chestpiece. The armor proficiency guide explains the penalty and manual options.

Questions before you continue

Do the wisps only appear at night?

No. This route has daytime evidence, and the written walkthrough also describes daytime visibility. Night can make the lights easier to see.
