A Dubious Gift: the Library Key route

To obtain the Library Key through A Dubious Gift, speak to the cathedral deacon, investigate Radu’s disappearance in the almshouse, and report what you found. The blocked wing is reached through a movable bookcase upstairs.

Start with the cathedral deacon

Visit Svartrau Cathedral during the day and speak to the deacon. In the documented route, he offers library access in exchange for learning what happened to Radu the Caretaker.

This is the permission route into the library. It appears within longer A Monk and a Saint guides, but you do not need to treat every treasury, stained-glass or graveyard objective in those guides as a Library Key step.

Find Stefan and open the sealed wing

  1. From the cathedral, exit into the back courtyard, turn left, then keep right to the almshouse entrance. Go to the second floor and enter the sick ward. KhrazeGaming describes this route at 13:50–14:10.
  2. Look for the bed beneath a window and confirm the Talk with Stefan prompt, shown below. Speak to Stefan. Method’s walkthrough describes helping clean and dress his wound before he explains the wing closed during the plague.
  3. Enter the small room on the upper floor and move its bookcase. The opening leads into the sealed section.
  4. Continue downstairs toward the cellar encounter.

Finish the cellar investigation before returning

Method identifies the cellar enemy as the Almshouse Monstrosity. Defeat it and inspect the remains; the guide lists the Caretaker’s Key among the loot.

The Caretaker’s Key and Library Key open different places. Keep the first item’s name intact in your notes, then return to the deacon with the information about Radu. This page does not claim a specific combat strategy or a complete list of cellar drops.

Report to the deacon and check the reward

Tell the deacon what happened to Radu. The video’s 14:49 reward screen names the Library Key for A Dubious Gift.

Open the library through the cathedral courtyard and continue your reading objective if you are pursuing A Monk and a Saint. Finding St. Mihai’s tomb and reforging the sword are later tasks; use the Forge It Anew guide when you reach the sword-shard stage.

If you have the Caretaker’s Key but no Library Key, check whether you have returned to the deacon and received the quest reward. The cellar pickup alone is not the library permission.
