Infamy & Edict System Guide
As of September 5, 2026: Infamy is the reputation system that tracks how much Coen disrupts Brencis and his followers' operations — and it's permanent. There's currently no confirmed way to lower it once gained.
What Raises It
- Destroying enemy operations — soldier camps, blood-supply warehouses.
- Causing open chaos or attacking guards/factions in Vale Sangora.
- Disrupting the territories of Brencis's officers — Ambrus, Bakir, or Xanthe — which raises both general Infamy and that officer's personal Anger Level at once.
What It Costs You
Higher Infamy triggers new Edicts from Brencis's Court — each one makes the open world tougher, with heavier military checkpoints and more enemies on the map. Maxing out one officer's Anger Level unlocks a unique major sidequest tied to that character, which shapes your eventual confrontation with Brencis.
Keeping It Low
You can't reduce Infamy once it's gained, but you can avoid unnecessary spikes by not killing civilians, not rampaging or attacking guards in settlements, and not getting caught stealing. That said, some Infamy is unavoidable — normal story progression (Court Activities, Soldier Camps, fighting Brencis's forces) raises it regardless.
FAQ
Can I lower my Infamy once I've gained it?
No — it's a cumulative, permanent system. Edicts can't be un-proclaimed.
What triggers an Edict?
Raising your Infamy/threat level high enough triggers a new Edict from Brencis's Court, adding tougher checkpoints and more enemies.
How do I keep Infamy as low as possible?
Avoid killing civilians, avoid open combat with guards in settlements, and don't get caught stealing — though some gain from normal story progression is unavoidable.
