Munch-Munch: two attack cues and what to do after the fight

For the red-skull spray, release block and dodge out of the front of the burst. If Munch-Munch hops away, keep facing him: he can leap straight back into reach. After winning, investigate the cave and search the nest; the Sword Shard is a separate pickup.

Reach the Hostile Takeover cave

Track Forge It Anew: Hostile Takeover. The published route identifies a low cave mouth with a large white X above it; crouch through the opening to reach the fight. The Forge It Anew shard route covers the surrounding travel.

The encounter reference below is a 49-second nighttime recording with a sword-equipped Coen. It starts inside the cave, so it is not evidence for an unshown approach route or a required level.

Red skull and forward bend: clear the spray

  1. Watch for the red skull as Munch-Munch draws his arms inward and pitches his body forward. The spray cue appears around 0:20.
  2. Release held block, then dodge clear of the front of the burst. The recording shows Coen moving away while green spray spreads in front of the boss.
  3. Face him again once the spray subsides. Wait for the next attack read before committing to a new sword attack.

The release-before-dodge instruction comes from IGN’s explanation of red-skull attacks. A dodge still has to clear the attack; these frames do not supply a fixed timing window or a guaranteed safe distance.

Game8 warns that Munch-Munch’s attacks inflict poison. The video shows the green spray, but does not measure poison duration or prove that any particular antidote is required.

A backward hop is not the end of the exchange

In the sequence at 0:33–0:37, Munch-Munch finishes close attacks, retreats low to the ground, and leaps back toward Coen. The player stays facing him rather than chasing the retreat.

  1. Stop extending your attack when the boss pulls away.
  2. Keep him in view through the crouch and forward leap.
  3. Read the attack indicator as he arrives. Use the matching directional block for a blockable strike; release block and dodge clear if the cue is a red skull.
  4. Resume a short counter only when the incoming action has finished, then read the next windup again.

This is a conservative way to respond to the demonstrated retreat-and-return pattern. The clip does not establish that every retreat triggers the same leap or that every landing is a guaranteed punish.

The boss bar disappearing does not collect the shard

Near the end of the fight, the boss bar disappears and the tracker returns to Forge It Anew: Hostile Takeover, with a cave-investigation objective using Focus Mode.

Continue to the nest at the rear of the cave and inspect it for the Sword Shard. Game8 records a three-time-segment confirmation for that pickup. Read the prompt before accepting it, then check that you actually obtained the quest item. Continue with the remaining shards and reforge.

If the response is failing

  • Coen will not move when you try to dodge: release held block first, then evade.
  • The spray still reaches you: focus on clearing its front instead of trying to counter during the burst. There is no verified minimum dodge distance here.
  • The boss catches you after retreating: stop chasing and watch for the return leap.
  • You won but the quest remains: inspect the rear nest; defeating the boss is separate from taking the shard.

Scope of this fight reference

Glarus Gaming labels the September 4, 2026 upload a Duelist no-hit fight. Those are the creator’s labels: the difficulty menu, full equipment setup and patch number are not shown. This guide uses the visible attack cues and the separately sourced defence controls; it does not promise a universal no-hit strategy, list every move, or prescribe a minimum level or loadout.

Questions before you continue

Can I block the red-skull spray?

Treat the red skull as an unblockable cue. Release held block and dodge clear of the burst; do not rely on a directional block for this cue.

Does killing Munch-Munch give me the Sword Shard immediately?

No: the recorded fight ends with cave investigation still pending. The published route then directs you to the rear nest for the separate pickup.
