Dawnwalker ending routes and where to keep a save

PowerPyx groups the game into seven reported outcomes: a bargain with Brencis, three confrontation routes, leaving the valley, remaining in the dream, and the 30-day timeout. Keep a separate manual save before the ending you intend to trigger. This page contains major story spoilers.

Choose the outcome before committing to the finale

Reported outcomeRoute to prepare
The TurncoatAccept Brencis’s bargain to betray your allies.
The Folk HeroConfront and defeat Brencis on your own.
The PatricideContinue Lacra’s alliance to Midnight Reckoning and fight alongside her.
The KnyazmakerContinue Crake’s alliance to Rise at Dawn and its final sequence.
A Hero They DeserveLeave Vale Sangora by the western escape route.
Together ForeverRemain in the Home Sweet Home dream instead of escaping.
Time Runs OutLet the post-prologue 30-day deadline expire.

These are PowerPyx’s outcome categories, not a claim that every epilogue variation is a separate ending. PC Gamer also documents a prologue Brencis victory variant, so a list of seven categories should not be read as an exhaustive list of every possible final scene.

Keep a save before each route’s irreversible action

Use a named manual save before the final conversation or castle-entry warning, and preserve it until you have seen the result. If you want to compare ally routes, progress the appropriate questline before making that final preparation save.

Lacra’s finale starts through Midnight Reckoning; Crake’s starts through Rise at Dawn. Do not assume that entering the castle alone will later let you switch to either alliance. PowerPyx starts each by speaking to that ally at the named quest objective. Lacra’s preparation chain is A Friend Like This → Song of the Mountain → Hive and Seek → Our Rotten Roots → optional The Night of Horrors → Midnight Reckoning. Crake’s is The Firebrand → Shadows in the Woods → Where Loyalty Lies → What Hunts the Night → What Moves the Dead → Who Pulls the Strings → Rise at Dawn → Fall Before Dusk; Distant Shadows and A Closer Look are listed as optional detours before the finale.

For a conservative family-rescue run, complete the prologue medicine objective correctly and stay within the main deadline. The author later clarified that the mother’s death does not block every ending; its effect on the In the Nick of Time achievement remained unconfirmed in the September 6 reply.

Separate the bargain from the solo attack

PowerPyx’s documented invitation route first defeats Ambrus, Bakir and Xanthe. With Infamy at maximum, advance to the next day and watch for the edict-reading cutscene and Brencis’s parley message. Confirm that A Deal with the Devil has appeared in your journal, then make a manual save.

  1. For The Turncoat, choose “I just want my family back.” and then confirm “I’ll do it” in the third dialogue. Avoid the sword option that immediately attacks Brencis.
  2. Gain access to the Manumit hideout through The Firebrand → Shadows in the Woods → Where Loyalty Lies. The Firebrand starts at the military camp in Briar Sloughs.
  3. After the invitation into the hideout, interact with its door at night to trigger the betrayal ending.

For the solo confrontation, the documented opening answer is “Enough. Time to End this.” Alternatively, follow the castle entrance guide to start the solo final sequence. Both routes still require the final encounters; this page does not supply boss tactics.

Treat the valley exit and dream as separate commitments

For A Hero They Deserve, PC Gamer documents a route with Corruption 11 and Shadow Dweller rank 2 for the longer Shadowstep range. At night, follow the outward road to the broken bridge at Cursed Chasm in northwest Briar Sloughs, west of Coward’s Path Shrine. Cross the gap with the extended Shadowstep and follow the road to the open pass. The choice to leave the valley forever is the ending trigger. Save before selecting it. These are that guide’s demonstrated preparation conditions, not a claim that no other traversal is possible.

Together Forever comes from continuing the Home Sweet Home dream loop. PowerPyx counts four completed boss cycles, then the family conversation at the start of the fifth. Keep a manual save before entering Silts Tower’s dream door; the linked guide gives the complete re-entry and well escape sequence when you reload that save.

What the 30-day timeout establishes

PowerPyx reports that exceeding 30 in-game days after the prologue triggers the family-sacrifice scene and still permits free roaming. Its author says in the comments that other ending routes can still be completed, but that is a follow-up report rather than a universal guarantee for every quest state or achievement.

Keep a pre-deadline save if rescuing the family is your goal. A timeout is not evidence that you have preserved the same ending conditions, and the sources here do not establish every post-timeout variation.
