Start with the fresco objective already active
This route begins after you have obtained the quest’s initial clues: your journal must already show Find the place from the fresco. If you are looking for the initial key or the mural that starts the quest, this page does not yet cover that earlier route.
Keep room in your remaining schedule for the entrance interaction. The recorded prompt costs three time segments; inspect your own confirmation before accepting it.
Find the overgrown stone entrance
- Track The Champion of Old and open the map. In the recorded route the yellow search area lies in the northeastern part of the map, north of the Maragir Wealds label. Compare the map at 0:06.
- Within that search area, follow the rocky approach uphill toward the old stonework and large tree. The region-discovery message reads Maragir Wealds; Coen remarks that the stonework looks ancient.
- Continue to the recessed stone entrance, where vines cover the way in. Use Focus Mode to highlight the obstruction and select Cut Through the Vines.
- After the opening sequence, walk into the round chamber. Your objective should change to Search the chamber.
If you only see ordinary loot nearby, face the vine-covered entrance itself. The interaction is on the obstruction, not the nearby loot.

Inspect the wall paintings around the chamber
Work around the chamber walls and finish the investigation dialogue at the painted scenes. Use these pictures and Coen’s deductions to check that you have examined the sequence:
- The attack on the tribe: a vrakhir attacks the people; the hero could not save everyone.
- The fight by the cliff: the hero fights and kills the vrakhir. Coen links the scene to the cliff and the deadly battle.
- The ceremonial burial: the sword is shown beside the buried hero.
- The hero’s body: Coen concludes that the hero died from wounds sustained while killing the vrakhir and was buried here.
These are scene checks, not a claim that you must click exactly four hotspots in a prescribed order. In the recorded inspection sequence from 1:00, the final deduction is followed by a noise and the chamber encounter.
If you remain on Search the chamber without that encounter, return to the wall investigations and let the remaining dialogue finish.
Defeat Erkas and take the sword from the loot
The enemy that appears is Erkas the Repenter. Clear this encounter, then inspect his loot in the chamber. Select Erkas’s Sword; the recorded item panel labels it a Legendary Longsword.
After the pickup, the video shows Quest Ended — The Champion of Old, with 250 XP and one skill point. Use the item name and quest-end message as your completion checks. The later Forge It Anew tracker is a different quest, not proof that this sword needs that reforge.
If the body has fallen but you have not seen the end message, check its loot before leaving. This page does not provide a complete Erkas moveset or an equipment recommendation.
What this route establishes
This walkthrough follows StingKnight’s September 6, 2026 recording, from its already-active fresco objective to the quest-end overlay. The run goes from Moonrise to Wee Hours after the entrance action. The video does not establish that night is required or that a daytime approach is identical.
The installed patch and difficulty menu are not shown. The sword panel’s level, damage and green comparison numbers are specific to that recording, so use your own item panel for a build decision.
Questions before you continue
How much time does cutting through the vines cost?
The recorded Cut Through the Vines prompt shows three time segments. This is the entrance cost, not a measured total for every earlier step of the quest.
Where is Erkas’s Sword after the fight?
In Erkas’s loot inside the chamber. Look for the Legendary Longsword name, then check for the Champion of Old quest-end message after taking it.
