A Monk and a Saint: Albertus and the cathedral clues

Albertus’s charcoal conversation points you beneath Svartrau Cathedral. To locate Mihai’s crypt by day, identify his symbol on the Treasury chalice, gain library access through A Dubious Gift, and read the cathedral annals.

Find Albertus after Anca’s lead

After visiting St. Tyna’s Convent with Anca in Between the Words, follow her lead to Albertus in the Middens outside Svartrau. Use Focus Mode to trace the writing on the walls until you reach the house covered in scribbles.

Tell Albertus you are looking for Saint Mihai’s sword and choose to pick up the piece of charcoal. That starts the sequence used in the walkthroughs below.

Use these five charcoal answers

  1. Abelard the Sorrowful.
  2. Svartrau Plaza.
  3. His penance, the place of his redemption.
  4. Never once set foot inside it.
  5. St. Mihai, a great warrior, arrived at Vale Sangora.

The conversation narrows the search to beneath the cathedral. Game8’s dialogue guide records a return to the prompt after a wrong answer, so an incorrect selection need not end the investigation.

Get the symbol from the Treasury chalice

  1. Enter the cathedral through its front door during the day.
  2. Help the young acolyte move boxes to open the belltower room, then collect the Treasury Key from the ledger.
  3. Use that key on the Treasury in the courtyard.
  4. Move the bookshelf to enter its hidden passage and inspect the Golden Chalice bearing Mihai’s symbol.

Knowing the symbol solves only one part of the puzzle. You also need the location of the burial site.

Earn library access through A Dubious Gift

  1. Speak to the cathedral’s Deacon about Radu the caretaker.
  2. Go upstairs in the Almshouse and speak to Stefan. Help clean and dress his wound so he tells you about the sealed wing.
  3. Move the bookcase in the small upstairs room and descend into the closed-off area.
  4. Defeat the Almshouse Monstrosity and collect the Caretaker’s Key and evidence.
  5. Report what happened to Radu to the Deacon to receive the Library Key.

The caretaker’s shed and repaired stained glass provide another symbol lead. With the chalice already inspected, Method’s route proceeds to the Deacon without paying for that repair.

Read the annals, then open the correct grave

Unlock the library from the courtyard, go upstairs and inspect the Annals of the Cathedral at the pulpit. The recorded browse interaction costs one time segment. The book identifies the side courtyard as the burial location.

Return to the row of five graves. Facing the row, inspect the fourth from the left, which is the second from the right. Recognize Mihai’s symbol to reveal the way down. If you cannot identify it, finish the symbol and burial-location investigations first.

In the crypt, investigate the wall where the noise is coming from. The encounter with Mihai follows; victory gives the Broken Sword of St. Mihai. Keep it for Forge It Anew, which covers the three shards, blacksmith and final tempering.

If you already used the nighttime route

The nighttime approach uses the cathedral scaffolding and rafters to inspect the fresco for Mihai’s symbol. The dead thief beneath the courtyard provides the burial-site clue. These clues can lead to the same grave without completing the daytime library sequence.

The Forge It Anew guide already documents Night Terrors and that upper-cathedral approach. If you have the Broken Sword, continue with the reforge instead of repeating Albertus and the daytime investigation.

Questions before you continue

Do I need both the chalice and repaired stained glass?

Method’s daytime route uses the chalice for Mihai’s symbol and skips paying to repair the stained glass. It still completes the caretaker investigation to obtain the Library Key.

Is the Broken Sword the final Legendary reward?

No. Keep it as a component for Forge It Anew. The shard collection, reforge and tempering stages produce the finished sword.
